Portage River Paddling Company - Port Clinton
Our Port Clinton location sits on 94 acres of pristine wildlife. We are just minutes from downtown Port Clinton, Ohio and Lake Erie.

This is our home base. The section of the Portage River at our Port Clinton location is a very unique stretch of the river. Being just a couple of miles from the the mouth of the river it is extremely wide. Over 3000 feet wide, in fact, in some locations. That's over 1/2 a mile! This makes for some pristine wildlife habitat!
You can rent kayaks, canoes, tandems, and stand-up paddleboards by the hour and go out and explore the abundant wildlife and scenery. You can see heron, geese, swans, muskrats, & so much more! Turtles are super abundant in the Portage River as well. Keep an eye out on logs for map, painted, and snapping turtles. Paddle around Judy Island, the home of our resident bald eagles nest or paddle over to a little river front restaurant and grab a bite and a pint! Bald eagles have made a huge comeback and have been taken off of the endangered species list. It is just short of guaranteed that you will see bald eagles flying around when you visit us in Port Clinton.

At the Port Clinton store you can also throw axes at our axe range, pan for gems and fossils from all over the world on our home made 116' gem mine, rent a bicycle to explore the lakeshore or Port Clinton, and see our dozens of animals including Gizmo, our 150 lb, 40 year old tortoise. We also offer riverside camping in Port Clinton as well!

You can bring a lunch and sit at one of our picnic tables located along our canal, throw a fishing pole, or play a game of giant Jenga or cornhole on our beach! We'll even build a fire for you so you can cook hotdogs or smores over the fire. Just call to give us a heads up and we will have it ready for you!
